Laser Hair
Removal works on all parts of the body, from legs, arms, and upper
lips, chin, neck, face, to back or shoulders.
Laser treatment can get rid of unwanted hair, quickly, easily and with proven long-term results. Getting rid of unwanted hair can be painful and time consuming. Laser treatment offers the best and effective alternate to shaving, painful waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams saving time that removing unwanted facial or body hair takes. Until now, the only options for removing unwanted hair were smelly hair removal creams, sharp razors, stinging wax or painful electrolysis needles.

The procedure is
fast, gentle, and precise, and is effective on all types of hair and
skin. Treatments that might span months or even years with
electrolysis or electrothermolysis take a few short visits with the
LightSheer diode laser. All procedures are performed in our office.
Recovery is rapid, and patients return to normal activities right
away.
The use of laser energy to remove hair works best for those with fair
skin and dark hair, because it is the dark pigment of the hair root or
follicle, which absorbs the energy. So those areas such as under arms,
and bikini lines which have not tanned, are ideal. Other tanned areas,
like an upper lip, and faces, can be difficult and cause pain with
treatments.
Hair grows unevenly, and the laser will affect only actively growing
hair follicles. This means that each area will need several
treatments, often weeks or months apart. Once the treated area hair
has fallen out, any new hair growth should be treated as soon as
possible, and this cycle should be repeated, as the new hair emerges.
Often new hair growth is much less dark, more soft and downy, and more
acceptable.
Treatment takes only a few minutes, depending on the size of the area
treated. Pain is proportional to the amount of tan or color, with pale
skin usually being painless. Some red reaction can be expected, which
usually passes off over night, and is usually not noticeable the next
day.
Laser treatment effectively eliminates unsightly blood vessels and thread veins enabling them to fade and slowly disappear by being absorbed into the body. No anesthesia or pain medication is needed and treatments are quick, convenient, safe and effective with little or no discomfort. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the treatment.

Red birthmarks such as "port wine stain" and strawberry marks and hemangiomas can be effectively and safely treated with the pulsed dye laser. The laser is so safe that it is used for port wine stains even in infants. Hemangiomas will often diminish on their own in time. So they are only treated if they are cosmetically detrimental to the child or if they interfere with normal functioning. Several treatments are expected in treating birthmarks. They are spaced several weeks apart. Topical anesthetic is usually sufficient for comfort.

Port Wine Birthmarks
An acute
source of psychological stress, these lesions are present at birth and
usually occur on the face or neck. If untreated, port wine birthmarks
can deepen in color and increase in size and depth with age. They can
become raised, increasing their susceptibility to abrasion,
ulceration, chronic infections and circulatory problems. Therefore,
port wine birthmarks are best treated as early as possible.
There are
two phases to laser treatment. The first phase determines the proper
laser energy to clear the lesion. This involves a test consisting of
several laser pulses with differing energy density. At your next
appointment, your physician will evaluate the best results to
determine the proper energy setting for your skin type. The first of
several treatment sessions will then begin.
Use of the laser causes a discoloration and a bruise of the skin known as a pupura which lasts for about ten days. The pupura fades after sometime making laser the most effective treatment available for port wine stains. Laser therapy results in a dramatic improvement of the skin.

Warts
Warts are
skin growths caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin
(commonly on the hands, feet, knees or elbows) or the mucous membranes
(mouth or genitalia). The virus usually enters the skin through an
opening, such as a cut or scratch, and incubates for a few months
before actually forming a visible wart. As a rule they heal without
scarring and generally this gives lasting immunity. Warts can be
spread from on part of the body to another and this usually happens
through picking and scratching. Although general warts are not spread
very easily from person to person they can be transmitted. It is
important to know that genital warts are spread easily from person to
person, usually from direct or sexual contact. Where the wart appears
and what it looks like depends largely on the type of virus that the
wart stems from. There are several kinds of warts including:
Common Warts
- There are the most frequently see and develop singly or group in
multiple warts together. There are firm to the touch and have a
rough-textured surface. They tend to be a slightly different colour
than the surrounding skin, such as yellowish, brownish or even gray in
colour. This type of warts generally appears on the fingers, around
the nails, on the knees, toes, face or scalp.
Plantar
Warts - These warts occur on the sole of the foot and tend to become
imbedded in the foot causing a pressure area that can be quite painful
to walk on.
Flat
Warts - These are small, flat, flesh colour or brown smooth areas
that appear in groups usually on the face. They are most common in
children and young adults.
Filiform
Warts - Most commonly occurring on the eyelids, face or neck,
these warts are usually long and soft, moving out in a finger-like
appearance. They can often be mistaken for something else, perhaps a
rash.
Genital (or
Venereal) Warts - Considered to be a sexually transmitted disease,
genital warts occur on the penis or the vulva. They can present as a
single wart or can spread into large cauliflower-like masses that can
be painful.
Because
warts are viral in nature, they can last from a few months to years
for some people. Most are not painful, but most are irritating and
frustrating. It is important to see a dermatologist and have the
suspected wart diagnosed properly before beginning treatment. This may
save time and costly home treatments that may be ineffective in
treating the problem. OHIP has taken the view that warts are a limited
infection of the skin and treatment of many of these is of cosmetic
concern only. At the present time they will cover treatment of warts
concerning the bottom of the feet, in the genital area or in people
who are immunosuppressed, such as those with AIDS or HIV, or are
taking medications that suppress the immune system.
Pulsed Dye
Laser (PDL) treats warts by a powerful emitting beam of light into the
wart. This results in damage to the blood vessels that supply the
warts, heat damage to the wart and hopefully stimulation of the immune
system that is battling the wart virus. Pulsed Dye Laser is very
successful in treating warts that occur on the fingers, toes, feet and
other areas of the body or face. Immediately after the treatment,
bruising at the site is common and expected. This generally fades in
5-10 days. Multiple treatments are required and are spanned 3-4 weeks
apart.
Every year
over thousands of people in the
Treatment
works by selective absorption of laser energy by the blood supply
which feeds the wart. The treated area then separates from the dermis
and gradually sloughs off.

Telangiectasia and Rosacea
North London Laser Medical successfully treats facial telangiectasia (spider veins) located on the forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. These lesions have a excellent response to the laser procedures carried out at our clinic. We employs a state of the art laser equipment which has the dual benefit of making treatment faster while greatly reducing the purpuric response or post-treatment darkening of the tissue. Most importantly, the results are superior to other types of laser or conventional treatments.

Laser Removal of Stretch
Marks
The options available for the repair of stretch marks were very limited until laser treatment became available. Like other forms of dermal scarring, stretch marks originating from pregnancy, rapid weight gain, or mechanical stress, respond well to laser treatment. The result is a dramatically improved revision of the skin. When compared with conventional topical methods of stretch mark revision, improvement is significant. And, skin irritation resulting from the use of these topical treatments is eliminated.

Acne Laser Treatment
Acne and
pimples appear in some 85% of the 12-25 year old population. A
percentage of older individuals also suffer from "adult acne". Most
suffer from the milder form of acne called non-inflammatory and
experience occasional blemishes. Others suffer from inflammatory acne
with its lesions consisting of blood vessels, white blood cells, and
other materials.
North London Laser Medical offers an effective treatment for acne using laser technology. The treatment is applied to successfully treat a wide variety of skin lesions in adults and children and has proven to be a remarkably powerful weapon in the battle against acne.

Leg Spider Veins and
Varicosities
Spider veins on the legs can occur as a result of varicose veins,
enlarged and twisting superficial veins in the legs. Varicose veins
can be genetic or due to a mechanical blockage of the deeper veins.
Quite often the enlarged veins are due to incompetent venous valves,
which subject the small superficial veins to greater pressure than
they can handle. Intermediate sized "feeder" veins called reticular
veins spread this pressure to the smallest veins. When these dilate
and appear as a red or bluish network they are also known as spider
veins
The vascular lasers are useful in treating spider veins on the leg and
face.
Poikiloderma
The "red neck" appearance from sun damage is known as poikiloderma.
This is due to an overgrowth of tiny capillary blood vessels.
Therefore it is responsive to treatment with the pulsed-dye laser.
